Join the de Young Museum and the Arts Research Center for four unique interventions around the museum, exploring the formal and social concerns of photographers who have made San Francisco their object of attention, focusing on Delaney’s exhibition and considering its connection to a history of San Francisco photography.
Photographer Janet Delaney will be in conversation with Seth Curcio, Associate Director of Pier 24 Photography, in the Koret Auditorium alongside a projected slide show of the history of San Francisco in photographs. Images, compiled with the help of the de Young intern team, will include work from Carleton Watkins, Eadweard Muybridge, Arnold Genthe, Ansel Adams, John Gutmann, Dorothea Lange, John Harding, Arthur Tress, Fred Lyon, Connie Hatch, Horia Manolache, and Michael Creedon. The conversation will be introduced by Julian Cox, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s founding curator of photography, and current chief administrative curator.
