Cal Day 2016

On Cal Day, learn about the campus’ new Arts + Design Initiative and its efforts to feature, fortify, and mobilize existing excellence in the arts and design while fostering new forms of dynamic collaboration, innovation, and public access across all arts and design fields, on our campus, and in public life.

Cal DayJoin Professor Shannon Jackson, Associate Vice Chancellor for the Arts and Design, and learn about campus spaces that nurture the arts, expose our students to new ideas, and present groundbreaking new work to our public. The tour will weave through maker spaces, including the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation and College of Environmental Design labs; presenting organizations, including Cal Performances and the new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive; and outdoor public installations, including stops at Bruce Beasley’s “Rondo” series and Berkeley Center for New Media’s carillon project “Does a bell have to ring before it is truly a bell?”; and the Dwinelle Annex, a historic John Galen Howard shingle-style building that will become the home and hub of the Arts + Design on campus. Talk with AVCAD Jackson about the Initiative and give us feedback on our new program goals for 2016/17.

This tour is a perfect offering for current students wanting to become more involved in the arts and design on campus, or parents and newly admitted students who will be joining us next fall! All proud Cal Bears welcome too! This tour will begin at 12:30PM at the Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation and will end at 2:30PM at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Tour participants are encouraged to join the 2:30PM tour of the museum’s new building.

If you can’t join our tour, come talk to the Arts + Design team at the Cal Day Marketplace or grab of our Arts + Design Campus Maps! More info at calday.berkeley.edu.
