Alexandro Segade

Interdisciplinary Artist & Assistant Professor of Art at UCSD

Xandro Segade is an interdisciplinary artist whose queer world-building projects propose speculative group identities. Often working in collectives, Segade makes spaces for critical play, using collaboration to complicate utopian impulses with radical ambivalence. Segade’s practice traces connections across performance, writing and drawing, making video, installation, theater, sculpture, music, costumes and comics that defy genre distinctions, subverting contextual frameworks, disrupting the political imagination.

In addition to the analysis of key artworks, a significant component of this project has involved examining the various strategies curators and artists have used to display moving images in a gallery/museum space. Natalia Brizuela is a Professor of Spanish & Portuguese and Film & Media at UC Berkeley. Her work focuses on photography, film and contemporary art, critical theory and aesthetics of both Spanish America and Brazil. She is the author of two books on photography. Chris Hoshnic is Diné from Sweetwater, Arizona. He is currently earning his B.A. in English at Arizona State University. In 2013, he graduated with an Associates in Video Production at Glendale Community College. His short film “Ozzy” premiered at the 2018 Jerome International Film Festival.
