As a theatre director, psychiatric social worker, and university instructor, Scott Wallin is passionate about working closely with others to create works of art that build community, push expectations, and explore a diversity of experiences. His scholarly work examines how theater reflects and influences our understandings of madness and mental illness. Other interests include applying performance theory across the arts, affect theory, and critical race studies.
He is currently on faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, where he has taught a variety of courses in writing and research; theater; and acting; and has directed a number of theater productions. Previously, he taught in the Interdisciplinary Arts at Stanford University. As a clinical case manager and therapist, he has worked extensively with people who are homeless and within the criminal justice system in San Francisco and New York City. He has had the privilege of living and studying in Europe, traveling extensively throughout Central America, and serving for three years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Caribbean.
