Join the Arts Research Center for a sharing of work presented by Indigenous and settler artist-scholars.

“weaving ~ listening ~ writing” is a week-long gathering of Indigenous and settler artist-scholars from the Bay Area and across North America. The event is organized around Dr. Tanya Lukin Linklater’s visits to ancestral Sugpiaq belongings held at UC Berkeley since 2018.

From April 28 through May 2nd, the research collective has been using the Arts Research Center as a home base during their investigations. Invited members are traveling to the Hearst Museum’s Richmond Collections Storage, learning from local community members on Sogorea Te’ lands and at Café Ohlone, and spending time together writing and listening alongside the complex work of visiting belongings held in museum storage. The visit is co-organized by Dr. Lukin Linklater and Dr. Beth Piatote (UC Berkeley) as part of a five-year project titled “Xóxelhmetset te Syewá:l | Caring for Our Ancestors: Reconnecting Indigenous Songs with Community and Kin” led by co-investigators Dr. Dylan Robinson (University of British Columbia) and Dr. Patrick Nickleson (University of Alberta).

Participants include: Tanya Lukin Linklater, Dylan Robinson, Beth Piatote, Neven Lochhead, Mitchell Akiyama, Cecily Nicholson, Carolyn Smith, Viola LeBeau, Roshanak Kheshti, Talia Dixon, Mya Dixon, Mina Linklater, Dominick Porras, Peter Nelson, Everardo Reyes, Sierra Edd, and Jimmy Ramirez.

On Friday May 2nd at 4pm, join the Arts Research Center for a culminating event as participants share their work.
